A short history of New York State's Forest Preserve, the state-owned land within the twelve Adirondack and four Catskill counties named in the Environmental Conservation Law. The booklet explains the difference between the terms preserve and park, then traces the preserve's history, including Verplanck Colvin's Adirondack survey, the forestry commissions of the 1880s and the land acquisitions funded by bond issues from 1916 on. Illustrated with historic images. Proceeds from the booklet supported the Adirondack Research Library of the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks.
